Document Summary
December 1st notes on memory: behaviour therapy, memory quiz and information processing model. Behaviour therapy: psychotherapy based on principles of classical or operant conditioning. Problem is viewed as error or failure in learning. Treatment of fear: simple phobia: intense, irrational fear of object or situation. Relatively common. anxiety disorder. patient is still in touch with reality. Ex, claustrophobia, small spaces, spiders etc. treated through exposure therapy which is very hard. Treatment: exposure: fear viewed as cr, so extinguish by repeated presentation: flooding therapy: patient is continuously presented with fearful object, until it no longer produces a response. Limited value: patient must be willing to expose self to fear for prolonged intervals. It"s no always possible: implosion therapy: patient must continuously imagine fearful situation. eg. think about being in a room full of snakes. Going to be used more than ooding because its easier and more ethic to use: counter conditioning therapy: replace cr of fear with a more pleasant response.
