Document Summary
Inside has some na (+), but mostly protein anions (-) Potential = ready for action, but not yet active. Chemicals from other neurons effect the permeability of cell membrane. A change in the electrical potential of a neuron that is proportional to the intensity of the incoming stimulation. Several neurons can make a graded potential become an action potential. An action potential is the sudden reversal of a neurons membrane voltage. Each channel can let a certain ion through. If certain graded potentials are activated: action potential (neural impulse) Action potential sets off impulse - axon - axon terminal. Order is restored after an action potential making neuron ready for next electrical impulse. After the neuron res there is a short pause. Places a limit on the nerve impulses that can occur. Stronger stimuli = more neurons ring more frequently. Synapse - a functional but not physical connection between a neuron and its target.
