Document Summary
Positive (increase it) or negative (decrease it) feedback. Overall musculature response towards a +ive) or away from (-ive) stimuli. Ex. positive phototaxis in moths and negative phototaxis in cockroach. Maintaining a constant state in body (always doing this ) These 2 processes are antagonistic to each other. After high levels of arousal, feels like parasympathetic is activated more than it actually is. Ras in brainstem (very large, extends almost all the way through) Nonspecific (doesn"t know what is happening, just knows that something is) Keeps the activation of the cortex going. Difference ras activates the brain, while sns activates the body. Arousal is that activation of the sns. Pupil dilation when viewing interesting slides (babies, naked people) Photos of woman and ask guys to rate how attractive they are. Sign of arousal, thus sign of attraction. Dilation just before a decision is made. However, after a certain increase/decrease it becomes highly unpleasant.
