Document Summary

Temporal sequence - the independent or predictor variable comes before the dependent criterion variable in time. Observe that lower self-esteem at time 1 didn"t necessarily predict more sns participation at time 2. Spurious association - the association between the independent or predictor variable and the dependent criterion variable cannot be explained by a third variable. The relationship between sns participation and self-esteem maybe explained by a third variable exam pressure. Thus, we still need to establish the third condition for causality, spurious association: describe the experimental method, distinguishing between independent and dependent variables and between experimental and control groups. The experiment : a research method in which the investigator manipulates independent variable under carefully controlled conditions and observes whether any changes occur in dependent variable as a result. An independent variable : a condition or event that an experimenter varies in order to see its impact on another variable. It is the variable the researcher manipulates in the experiment.
