Document Summary
Researchers are now more interested in gender variance or gender nonconformity. Transgender individuals : are those whose sense of gender identity differs from their biological sex at birth, they often reject gender labels. (their perception of themselves as male or female does not line up with their biological sex ) Sexual orientation, which refers to one"s erotic, sexual preferences. Gay men, lesbians, and bisexual individuals typically recognize their preferences during puberty and have no wish to change their gender. Transvestism, which refers to those people who regularly feel sexual gratification from dressing as the opposite gender. These individuals typically do not wish to have sex with others from their own gender (that is, they have a heterosexual orientation) and they also do not wish to change their gender. New notion of gender fluidity : gender is an unstable continuum and can vary over time. (eg. identify as women as a time and man as other)
