Problems are solved via memory by analogy and remembering specific examples. Problems can be solved by expertise more easily because they have more experience. If you have been a doctor for a while, you are very experienced and probably do not need to go through a series of diagnostics in order to classify the disease. Expertise - real expertise must pass 3 tests: It must lead to a performance that is consistently superior to that of the expert"s peers. Means you are very good at something; better than peers (these are people who have risen to the top of their field; always superior) Brain surgeons, not only must be skillful with their scalpels but also must have successful outcomes with their patients. Something that is measurably better (why expertise is often studied using athletes, musicians, professions ) True expertise can be replicated and measured in the lab.
