Document Summary
Question of the day: how do animals communicate? (is there meaning in their communication) Communication is behaviour involving signals w. john smith: dances, chirps, visual signs, facial expressions. The waveform can be oriented in many angles of planes. Unpolarized light can oscillate through many different angles of planes and many axis of orientation (no restrictions) Polarized light can only oscillate through one plane of angle or one axis of orientation (restriction that light passes through a specific polarization filter) Quarter wave rotators (eg. cellophane) can rotate the wavelengths: colours that are seen are dependent on the orientation of the linear polarization and quarter wave rotators, changing what light gets through the plane of oscillation. Instead of having a single plane of polarization, it rotates the plane of polarization as the it passes through. The resultant of linear and circular polarization can create different displays of colours and patterns (through the oscillations of light through linear and circular polarizations)
