Visual Arts Studio 1020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Gesso, Masking Tape, Contrast Effect
Document Summary
The visual response to different wavelengths of sunlight identified as red, green, blue and so on, having the physical properties of hue, intensity and value. Light contains a spectrum: light hits a prism, wavelengths are separated so we can see each individual colour wavelength. When light is shone through a prism, the different wavelenths of light will be separate and visible as: When light hits objects, or pigment, colour will either be reflected r absorbed. Green leaf will reflect green wavelengths (cannot absorb the green wavelengths) Never seen alone, other colour is always adjacent, affecting how we view the colour. White background will dull the colours (less saturated) Also refer to as chroma, or brilliance of saturation. Intense hues advance in pictorial space painting on black gesso will result in more vibrant colours than painting on a white canvas. When beside eachother, make each hue more intense and brilliant.
