The classic definition of bullying is repeated exposure to negative actions on the part of one or more persons. Usually the perpetrator is of higher status than the target. The acts are intentional and have the goal of inflicting injury, fear, harm, discomfort, etc. Verbal: through words/speaking (name calling, teasing, taunting, threatening, etc. ) Physical: physical contact like hitting, kicking, locking inside a locker, spitting, etc. Usually children and younger teenagers, male although female physical aggression is increasing. Emotional: deliberate attempt to hurt someone by inducing stress, anxiety, depression, fear. Social/relational: affects relationships e. g. gossip, exclusion, ignoring, rumours, manipulation. Psychological: affects psychological wellbeing, e. g. loss of self-esteem, intimidation, torment, extortion. Power: imbalance of power caused by age, gender, status, grade, ability. Deliberate: intentional, aimed at specific person, meant to cause injury or distress. Discrimination: through racism, sexism, about sexuality, status, ability. Indirect: behind the person"s back, including cyber bullying.
