Document Summary

Metals, non-metals, metalloids and noble gases these designations are base on physical properties (lesser extent chemical properties) Metals (tan color) malleable, ductile, good conductors, lustrous. Non-metals (blue and pink) poor conductors, brittle. Metalloids (green) some properties of metal and non-metals (si, ge, as, sb, te, at) Noble gases (group 18 pink) all gasses and generally lack reactivity. Group 18 (noble gas elements) have their outermost shell completely filled with electrons. It is difficult to remove or add electrons to these configurations. Elements of this group are largely unreactive and do not form ions (special chemical stability) Main group metal ions: groups 1 & 2. The atoms of group 1 (alkali metals) and group 2 (alkaline earth metals) are the most reactive toward loss of electrons. Group 1 elements tends to lost one electron to from a +1 cation. Group 2 elements tend to lose two electrons to form a +2 cation.
