● Players / producers / places → illustrate the logic but also tensions in this creative
economy framework
● Creative economy = contemporary policy oriented discourse, can be rougly broken down
into creative industries/class/city (reviewed many times)
● Call of duty MW3 made more revenue than Avatar - videogames rival and leapfrog
hollywood box offices
● Historically the biggest money maker has been the console
○ Perpetual upgrade economics - upgrade after a few years
● Canada poll - almost 60% had played video game in past month - avg age of gamer is
33 years old - male bias diminishing but not disappeared (52-48%)
● Games do not just compete with other media, but fuse with them
● Serious games - games designed to serve govt/corp/activist objectives → eg educate on
climate change
● ‘Triple - A subsector’ games industry made up of subsectors
