2013 stats show male cancer rate decreased and for females it increased. What is cancer? uncontrolled growth & spread of abnormal cells caused by: mutations in genes that regulate cell division (tumor repressor cell- regulated cell death might occur, or repair cell) Mutations may be acquired (spontaneous errors, environmental exposures) or inherited. Disregulation of cell cycle unchecked cell proliferation - malignant growths tumor invades healthy tissues disrupts function of vital organs. If cells break away from primary site they can metastasize : Travel to other parts of the body. Big problem, and don"t o where its going. Angiogenesis: formation of new blood vessels (required to bring nutrients to tumor for it to grow, it has its own blood supply, if u cut this it wont grow. Benign is non cancerous, grows slowly, local, don"t do anything about it unless its pre-cancerous. Arise from cells that cover external, internal body surfaces. Arise from cells found in supporting tissues of the body.
