Action: flexion, extension, abduction, lateral & medial rotation. Attachment: clavicle, acromion, scapular spine (circular attachment) to the deltoid tuberosity of humerus. Proximal : lateral third of clavicle and acromion and spine of scapula. Primary action: anterior: flexion and medial rotation; middle: abduction; posterior: extension and lateral rotation of shoulder. Area of thorax (chest) that connects the upper limb to the axial skeleton. Action: stabilizes scapula by drawing inferiorly and anteriorly against thoracic wall. Attachment : corocoid process & ribs 3-5. Stabilizes scapula by bringing it downward and inward. From 1st rib to inferior surface of clavicle. Action: adducts and medial rotates shoulder and draws scapula anteriorly and inferiorly (pect minor!) Sternocostal head: extends shoulder when in flexed position. Sternocostal head: inferior part has horizontal fibres; attachment: anterior part of sternum, costal cartiilage, apneurosis (really dense connective tissues) of oblique muscles increases stability of muscle. Clavicular head: uperior part has oblique fibres; attachment: anterior surface of medial half of clavicle.
