Stage 7 active for life (broken down for life vs competitive for life) Sensitive periods - in childhood to develop fms. Encourage improving skills such as running, jumping, kicking. Reviews by lubans et al. (2010) and holfelder et al. (2014) More fundamental movement skills leads to increase of activity, cardio-fitness, and lower weight status. At this stage, optimal development occurs when adults provide a safe place for children to play, and when there is unstructured access to a wide variety of colourful toys and equipment. Limited reasoning ability at early part of this stage. Introduce of simple rules and ethics of sport. Sport dependent as to the specific age. Balance of deliberate play and deliberate practice. Better movement skill base and skill transfer. May lead to continued recreational participation and high performance outcomes.
