Document Summary

The name punk comes from a magazine out of new york called punk. Punk is the ultimate rebellion against virtually all forms of post 1960s rock and against society in general. Once hippie aesthetic takes root in wake of bob dylan and after beatles turn psychedelic and concept albums, punk rebels in an attempt to get back to early 60s (elvis, chuck berry etc) Can be seen as a rejection of post 60s rock or as an extension of it. Extension of the harder side of mainstream rock initiated by the stones and other british-blues based bands. To call something produced to punks is an insult. They are against overproduced music, mistakes were not a big deal. Back to the notion of playing music live on the floor. Did not use the studio as an instrument of its own like the beatles who couldn"t even play their music live. Bands would crash on other people"s floors while touring.
