An empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real life context; when the boundaries between phenomenon and context are not clearly evident; and in which multiple sources of evidence are used . Case studies provide a systematic way of looking at events, collecting data, analyzing information, and reporting the results. Case studies emphasize detailed contextual analysis of a limited number of events of conditions and their relationship. Descriptive case studies: purest form of case study, aims to chronicle or describe some aspect of reality. Theory testing case study: seeks to modify an existing theory; theory testing. Failed most-likely case: phenomenon is expected to conform to existing theory but does not. Successful least-likely case: phenomenon is expected to refute existing theory but does not. Provides a detailed examination of htr case in question. Contribute to the establishment of general propositions and a spring board for theory/hypothesis building.
