PO301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Organ Donation, Hillel Steiner
Document Summary
Po301 lecture 9: the principle appears to take no account of the interests of either non-human animals or future generations. It seems entirely consistent with nozick"s principles for a single generation to distribute the resources exactly as it will - *and then to pass these down to their children*, creating a system whereby those who have less in the future world have not consented to having less resources. Steiner): when nozick asks whether a person is made worse off by appropriating a resource, he compares the situation in which that resource remains unowned, with the situation in which it goes into full private ownership. However, there are other possible ownership arrangements which should be considered that may make most, or even all, better off than they would be under full private ownership. (ga cohen). Note that nozick conceives of the criterion of something being just" not that it refers to something morally good, but that it refers to something permissible.
