Document Summary

Po301 lesson 8 assumed to be objective such as the interest in life, food, etc, seems that what has to be shown is that parental autonomy is in the child"s interests. Familial relationship goods - brighouse and swift; argue that the content of parents" rights is derived from interest in particular goods i. e. emotional intimacy, spontaneous sharing of self. Not clear that not sending your child to elite private school compromises this. Expressive liberty (galston) - liberty to express their beliefs and commitments through the way they raise their children. Creative self-extension (mcleod) - interest in creatively extending themselves into the world - see above. Identity - establish sense of continuity of identity with their children (reshef). Objection 1 - allowing this principle to manifest in this particular form of policy would exacerbate problems of social inequality that exist right now and decrease social mobility.
