History of psychology: starts when people wondered about human nature (environment) and human behaviour. The study of the mind: psychology is the study of the behaviour and mental processes such as thought and emotion. Are they related or separate: questions from philosophy combined with methods borrowed from the physical sciences, and this is how psychology was created. Psychology"s beginnings: psychology = philosophy, there is no unique domain of psychology, philosophers were the ones arguing about what it was to be human, alive and to experience things. The change: wilhelm wundt: founder of psychology (acclaimed, 1879, leipzig, germany, he conducted the first documented psychology study, designed study how our perception and hearing time is related to our reaction time (key and ball?) Two schools of thought: structuralism (titchener- student of wundt continues to tradition) Belief that all experience could be reduced to basic elements.
