Document Summary

Sensory info goes into cranial nerves, up the spinal cord, then to the thalamus (on its way to the cortex: sense of smell does not stop at the thalamus. Most sensory information going to the cortex: each sensory modality has a dedicated thalamic nucleus. Nuclei communicate to other nuclei: functions like a switchboard". Accepts all info coming through & reroutes info so it goes to the right place in the cortex. In order to keep info in brain, info bounces btwn cortex & thalamus. Some stimuli are processed more: hypothalamus: Involved in emotion regulation, memory strength, decision making, attention: does not release hormones itself, mostly from the pituitary. Blood brain barrier is thin here to allow hormones to exit brain: hormones: allow communication btwn brain and body. Involved in memory formation and relating different pieces of information to each other. On r & l sides (2 separate structures: amygdala: Responsible for flashbulb memories (remembering every detail of a traumatic event)
