Central theme is experiencing somatic symptoms that cause significant distress or impairment and that involve excessive thoughts, feelings and behaviours in response to these symptoms. Individuals are pre-occupied with persistent fears of having a serious disease, despite medical reassurance to the contrary. Illness anxiety disorder: pain, conversion disorder, factitious disorder (cid:862)soma(cid:863) = bod(cid:455, where psychological problems take a physical form and physical symptoms have no physiological explanation and are not under voluntary control. Clinical description: somatic symptom(s, person has at least 1 somatic symptom that bothers them.
