Document Summary

Carcelli & greene *1997) reasons for mixed methods approach: In sequential, study"s sections are priotizied and integrated depending on priorities. Which method you spend the most time/energy on and which is more complimentary than focus. In a dominant/less dominant sequential design, the less dominant method may be a shorter study, or used as a pilot to inform a broader phase. Methods can have equal weighting or dominan method. Equal weighting is challenging due to demands on time and resources + difficulty of integration. Quant + qual: collecting qualitative data alongside quantitative to illustrate and add depth to findings. Qual + quant: collecting some form of quantitative data to provide both in-depth info and some form of statistical illustration (harder with small samples) Rigor/validity of qual research: evaluative criteria & external. Guba & lincoln (1985) suggest credibility, tranferability, auditability & confirmability as alternatives to internal/external validity & reliability. Creditability: degree of fit b/w respondents" views and researchers" description and interpretation.
