The framework of sociology: concepts, sociological perspectives, methods. The way society is organized into different parts can help us understand the causes of social problems. Social groups- can be as small as a group of 2 or as much as 2000. Primary + secondary = two or more people have common identity, interact and form a social relationship. Status- a position a person occupies within a social group. Define our social identity: master status, ascribed status, achieved status. Whereas social structure refers to the organization of society, culture refers to the meanings and the way of life that characterizes a society. Elements of culture include beliefs, values, norms, sanctions, and symbols. Definitions and explanations about what is assumed to be true. Beliefs influence whether individual or group views certain social conditions as problems. Social agreements about what is considered good and bad, right and wrong, desirable and undesirable.
