Document Summary
The role of employment (as a form of work) and labour in society. Different perspectives on how to organize labour and employment relationships. Employment a relationship between an employer and an employee involving an exchange of labour power (work) for something of value. Relates to the person performing the work: do not usually share directly in profits. Degree of control an employee is usually told when and how to do the work and is subject to supervision of some sort. Degree of economic risk an employee is usually paid their wages even if a customer does not pay their bills (risk of nonpayment in the employers) but. Degree to which the organization provides the necessary tools employees are more likely to have the tools provided to them by their employer. Emphasizes free exchange between informed actors of labour supply and demand. Assumes (quasi-perfectly) competitive labour markets that ensure equilibrium wage rates with no government interference.
