Research in motion (later called blackberry), which rose to fame in 1999 after it introduced a breakthrough technology -- an easy and effective device that allowed employees to send and receive e-mails while away from the office. The innovative company became one of the world"s most valuable technology companies following its launch of the first genuine smart phone (in 2002). Blackberry"s share price had fallen to less than , from its once high of a share. Weak sales resulted in a major downsizing of its workforce.
