Document Summary

Toe pads are made of scales- lamella are specialized scales. Lamella are covered with hair-like structures called seti. They are species that have same structure habitat, same morphology & behaviour but not phylogenetical the same. Diversification leads to the effective use of resources. Those that are in grade have long toe, poorly developed toepads. It uses area from ground to crown when alone- w/o competitor. The green anoles live higher up on the tree since the brown anoles inhibit the bottom. Habitat: green anoles will shift habitat to become more arboreal. Morphological: evolve larger toepads with more lamellae- directional selection in morphology. Those that have these traits, larger toepads survive longer. Results show that they were perched higher in presence of brown- realized niche narrowed. Evolved better developed toepads with increased lamellae- genetic basis. When species are sympatric- living in same environment. Natural selection favours individuals that don"t compete. Introducing species narrows the realized niche character displacement.
