A procedure by which we attempt to find systematically, and with the support of demonstrable fact the answer to a question or the resolution of a problem. **how to do research on children - test question. Ethnography (*extremely appropriate in researching children): involves the researcher grasping first-handedly the child"s world/the child"s knowledge. This methodology of appreciation recognizes that the activities of actors have meaning independent of the research. The host (child) invites us into their world; be respectful of the host, develop a relationship w/ the host (gain trust) - must be a rapport. Critical ethnographers raise their voice to speak to an audience with their research participants (child) as a means of empowering them by giving more authority to their voice. Critical component: action-based, apply what is learned in order to improve the world, do something with the findings. Is the application and combination of several research methodologies in the study; observations and interviews.
