HUMA 1165 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Vishvarupa, Kubera, Vasu
Document Summary
Hindus believe that the soul or embodied self is reincarnated by changing bodies like we change clothes. The warrior is also reminded that his purpose in life is to fulfill the sacred duty of the caste to which he belongs. As a warrior his sacred duty is to protect his people and defend the faith. Verse 11: krishna is teaching about knowledge through arjuna. Krishna believes that knowledge means to know matter and spirit and the controller of both, it is more important than the religious principles. In this case arjuna was lacking in knowledge. He thought of himself as a learned man but he was frequently mourning for something that was unworthy for it. The body was known to vanish one day and so body and soul aren"t important, which means there is no point in mourning. Absolute freedom can be attained by knowledge conjoined with works such as the agnihotra prescribed in the sruti and the smriti .
