Odin gave up his eye to learn something from the past (becomes wiser) Usually in mythology people look into knowledge of the past in order to prepare and something in the future. This is why sometimes people who are considered wise are old, b/c they have a lot of past experience which can help them predict futures (been there done that) In gilgamesh the future is really why he in fear. Gilgamesh restlessness in the beginning makes him go on an adventure that makes him driven to know more to know what is going to happen after death, and to make sure it"s going to be something good. Enkidu"s death makes gilgamesh go on a quest for the unknown. After going on so many adventures he has, fighting gigantic monsters, at the end of the day, gilgamesh did not find the answer, he can"t he is human.
