Current canadian initiatives to reimburse live organ donors for their non-medical expenses. Organ donation is a noble and commendable act. Several documentations talk about the advantages of organ donation and transplantation. Organ transplantation saves many lives and gives hope to many patients. For instance, research in canada show that a patient with kidney failure can live longer after a kidney transplant compared to when surviving on dialysis. Dialysis is quite expensive in many countries and a transplant saves money for many patients. However, there is increased neglect of live donors. People who are willing to save lives always cater for all their expenses. Some of them end up losing their income sources for being absent at work. All live donors should be part of reimbursement programs to cater for their expenses. Several initiatives to implement such programs exist in canada. Several federal policies offered partial financial support to living donors.
