HUMA 1825 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Dukkha, Headon, Thomas Guide
Document Summary
Murder in the cathedral: thomas"s description of the chorus (p. 21) is exactly the same as the mysterious fourth tempter"s description of thomas (p. 40). This applies to the chorus because the chorus suffers because they do not act. These women go on to talk about their lives and how they admit that their life is defined by suffering and how they are living and partly living. These women suffer because they are afraid to take the world head-on and deal with their own problems. They prefer to live quietly and avoid notice. They do not act, they do not engage in their free will to stop the suffering and therefore, without action they will continue to suffer. This passage applies to thomas in temptation because if thomas doesn"t act he will then suffer but if he does act, he will suffer the consequences.
