KINE 3012 Lecture Notes - Lecture 26: Cardiac Output, Renal Corpuscle, Solution
Document Summary
The transfer of liquid and dissolved substances out of your vascular system (plasma) and into your kidney tubules is called glomerular ltration: you get a source of blood coming in from your vascular system, into your kidney. A lot of that liquid gets ltered into your kidney tubules. This is what they call glomerular ltration rate: once this liquid is in the inner workings of your tubules, it could all go into ltration. It doesn"t though, only a small portion of it leaves your body and the rest is ltered back into circulation. At rest, your kidney receives 20%-22% of your cardiac output: this is about 1500l of blood owing into the kidney per day. Glomerular ltration only applies to the plasma content of your blood, no rbc"s are lost: 20% of the plasma that comes through is ltered out into the kidney.
