Dizziness light headed, swimming sensation, feeling of falling. Vertigo true rotational spinning from neurological disease (labyrinthine- vestibular apparatus, vestibular nuclei in brain stem) When vertigo is objective, the perception is that the room spins. When vertigo is subjective, the perception is that the person spins. Onset sudden or gradual onset, specific events like accidents or falls. Acute onset of stiffness with headache and fever occurs with meningeal. Precipitating factors what movement cause pain, lifting etc. Coping strategies ability to work and sleep. Pain creates viscious cycle tension increase pain, disability creates more anxiety. If >40 suspect it until proven not. Increased risk for salivary and thyroid tumors. Smoking and large alcohol consumption together increase the risk of cancer. Surgery for head and neck cancer often is disfiguring and increase risk of body. Alcohol consumption by mother druring pregnancy: increased risk of fetal alcohol syndrome distinctive facial features.
