Document Summary

Vascular tissue--overheads: vascular tissue is concerned with internal transport and includes blood and lymph, lymph has the same composition as tissue fluid. All body cells are made in a salty liquid which is tissue fluid. The lymphatic system has 3 main functions: lymphatic capillaries collect excess tissue fluid and return it to the blood stream, Tissues are made up of cells and so is blood: the cardio vascular system in the average adults holds 5l of blood. Blood includes a liquid matrix called plasma and cells that are separated into 3 categories: 1) erythrocytes (erythro = red) or red blood cells (rbcs) 2) leukocytes (leuko = white) or white blood cells (wbcs). There are 5 categories of leukocytes, and they are important in the body"s immune defense. They initiate a sequence of reactions that cause blood clotting. If blood is separated into plasma and cells, plasma represents ~ = 55% by volume; cells are ~ = 45% by volume.
