Most successful aspects of arpanet: high speed transmission, adaptive routing and efficient packet switching. Lawrence roberts first recruited by arpa to work on arpanet. The way he led his oberall team was reflected in his machine. Some historians suggest his informal management style reflected in system he built. Arpanet had three main parts host computers, minicomputers and phone lines. He designed it using a concept called layering, where different parts of network are given different responsibilities. Layering system - a system where different parts are given different resposibitlies. Responsibilty for activies don"t fall on one part of the system they are rooted for different parts throughout the system. For example, minicomputers served as nodes of network and each host computer attached to minicomputer.
