Athens was considered a democracy without human rights without human rights: less people= less people to pay. Employment: the optimistic view: computers eliminate jobs but also creates jobs (ex. Computer programmers, chip maker, web designers etc. : technology typically does not create unemployment instead a new field (area) of employment. The upscaling claim: automation occurs already in routined work situations: takes away the drudge work out of processing and also gives more time for individuals to focus on other tasks. Accountants learned to use spreadsheets and other programs allowing them to have more time thinking, planning and analyzing. The pessimistic view: computers eliminate a much wider variety of jobs than any other technology in the past.
