The sun can also cause tides which is half as strong as the moon. Near full and new moon, these effects add up to cause spring tides which are a lot bigger than usual (they are the biggest tides) First and quarter will have the sun cancel it out and cause the smallest tides called neap tides. The more gravity that is extracted, the distance will get farther. Basically, this causes the moon the slowly drift further away from earth. Bruises on the moon are caused by asteroids and the moon protected earth. We can see one side (near side) and cannot see the far side.
