Cadre party: elite run and controlled, party organization exists only at elections, top, down, little democracy. Member involvement in choosing candidates, leaders, policies. Increasing public frustration- when people can"t answer a political question, we tend to become more frustrated and aggressive. Yes, parties motivated by different orientations in politics. They are a package of assumptions and beliefs that are used to see a since of the world. There are three types of ideology: conservative, liberalism, and socialism. Liberals: freedom: 1900= less state, free trade, decentralization. Shift from loose cadre to disciplined parties caused by ride of left parties. Left invents new party form mass party. Canadian trend different from europe: the canadian party system. Ccf/ndp an obvious class party, though, never just working class. Liberals and tories as class parties organize politics to submerge real class issues. Focus on regional/language issues, aided by media system and other class forces.
