Different kinds of management needed if large scale efficiency was to be achieved. In came the idea of scientific management: scientific management: reduction of the management to clearly define objectives, systematic principles, and practices that renders organizations more rational. Relationship between means and ends, how machine workers should be used in order to bring about productivity. Associated with fredrick winslow taylor, father of scientific management. Winslow taylor, had position of supervising and managing work floor: observations led to questions: how to combine human and mechanical resources to minimize the waste, workers time, achieve higher productivity. During observations as engineer, realised that there"s a soldiering around of workers, slacking off. What does it mean, soldiering off: workers are engaged in soldiering, pretending to work.
