When canada was under the british empire, it was called upon to participate in all kinds of things. Canada developed this attitude, never volunteering, always being in a position where you can say no, close to isolationism. This approach may have lead us to participating more in ww2. The creation of nato allows us to view the leadership. Louis st laurent was able to change king"s approach. He provides a vision that becomes central to canada. These people are instrumental in changing this vision. Nato members have to pay their dues and that they don"t control how much they are going to pay. Being part of an organization, you have to care about it to maintain your voice. When you become a member of a club, the logistical status takes up most of your time. We were forced to spend money we didn"t want to spend. You often end up caught in the requirement of participation.
