Adaptive coping vs. maladaptive coping adaptive coping generally involves confronting problems directly. Avoidance-oriented coping running away from instead of facing an issue. Indulging oneself largely unconscious reactions that protect a person from unpleasant emotions, such as anxiety and guilt. Constructive coping refers to relatively healthful efforts that people make to deal with stressful events. Role: ambiguity, conflict, overload, no participation in decision making, etc.
