Countries: meso - level theory links macro and micro levels at an intermediate level theories on how organizations operate, community group interactions etc. Interested in social facts , i. e. , the effect of social structure on behaviour. Structuralism-social factors external to the individual- e. g. division of labour, urban density. Social order a fact of life- focus on characteristics of groups and structures vs. individual attributes- assume consensus. Crime and deviance is normal serves a function sets acceptable boundaries for behaviour. Integration -when society is strongly integrated it holds individual under its control. Disintegration - breakdown in society"s ability to control behaviour of individuals. People"s desires unlimited- external controls required- in well-regulated societies social controls set limits on individual desires. If regulatory control breaksdown- people can find themselves in a situation of deregulation or anomie. Anomie- normlessness/rulelessness result of poorly integrated and/or weakened controls influenced merton and social control theorists in north.
