Developing a thesis - a useful thesis is an explicit, debatable claim. Please, as you commence your paper, remember that your tas have to read over 40 papers and although you discussed your essay with him/her, he/she cannot remember all that was discussed. Thus, on the onset, it is recommended that you let the tas know what the essay is about - this is your thesis. For example, the topic/social issue is child abuse. This is your general area of interest, and it might be that the opening statement of the paper is child abuse exist. indeed, it does, but this is not a thesis. Another opening might be child abuse is more evident amongst members of low socioeconomic class. this is a fact, it is not a thesis. Another opening is i think that child abuse is bad or abusers are bad. this is an opinion, it is not a thesis.
