In 2017, important to note that much of the developing world still struggles with ethnic and racial con ict as well as violence which sti e local political, social, and economic development. Riots, civil wars, criminality and regime violence as a result of these con icts hinder development in these countries. An ethnic group is a group with common traditions, beliefs, values, and history that unite it and distinguish it from others . Ethnicity argued to be a social construction - not something that exists objectively, but rather is a way people see themselves rather than an inherited, primordial characteristic. Ethnic groups share beliefs about common descent or historical experience but. Nourished by ethnic entrepreneurs (as well as bad journalists and academics) who gain some type of (often political) advantage by playing the ethnic card. During times of crises and uncertainty, leaders and people with in uence create historical myths that give their ethnic group a sense of security.
