SOWK 3060 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Reflectance
Document Summary
Reflectivity involves the ability to locate oneself in a situation through the recognition of how actions and interpretations, social and cultural background and personal history, emotional aspects of experiences and personally held assumptions and values influences the situation. Also, it is a type of responsibility such as an ability to recognize personal influence and to develop a sense of agency in a situation. In other words, being aware at all times of the meaning and price behind our actions or behaviour as well as thoughts. The point of reflectivity is to reflect on ourselves and understand our decisions and be aware about if those decisions we make are biased or not. Features of the critically reflective process are: the ability to acknowledge and appreciate the influence of self. Second is the recognition of personally held, often hidden or unconscious assumptions, and their role in influencing a situation.
