The small intestine absorption, and some digestion (very important part of gi) To assist digestion and absorption in small intestine: Big mass of coils of small intestine; wound in organised fashion, so food can continue to move through them. Stomach comes down; pyloric sphincter (holding it close) Duodenum (c-shaped, first part); sharp turn: duodenal-jejunal flexure jejunum ileum. Attached to body wall by mesentery (double layer of peritoneal membrane, covers the tube and holding everything in place) Also provide huge blood supply to gut tubes to pick up absorptive products and lymph vessels too to pick up fat. At the end, enters the ascending colon (by this point absorption is mostly done) Large intestine: some absorption of water and salts but absorption of our food products is carried out in our small intestine.
