At the end of ileum (small intestine), most have been digested and absorbed; left with water, salts to be absorbed in large intestine and waste material there to be removed from the body. Liver (good example of how to arrange cells to do very complicated job) Descending colon pushed back to the side rectum anal canal (midline); moves to midline. Small intestine really long gets tangled easily; thus we have mesentery attaching it to the body wall and carrying the blood vessels and nerves; Colon (has a different form, pouch like; change in structure) All have to be held in place by mesentery (fused to body wall); needs to be kept in a very ordered arrangement. Beginning of colon: cecum; hanging off the cecum = appendix (can be taken out; not sure it"s of particular use to us; can become inflamed and burst)
