HUBS192 Lecture Notes - Lecture 28: Colic Flexures, Superior Mesenteric Artery, Peritoneum
Document Summary
At the end of ileum (small intestine), most have been digested and absorbed; left with water, salts to be absorbed in large intestine and waste material there to be removed from the body. Liver (read through glm- terms test 2; it"s tested!) Liver (good example of how to arrange cells to do very complicated job) Descending colon pushed back to the side rectum anal canal (midline); moves to midline. Small intestine really long gets tangled easily; thus we have mesentery attaching it to the body wall and carrying the blood vessels and nerves; Colon (has a different form, pouch like; change in structure) All have to be held in place by mesentery (fused to body wall); needs to be kept in a very ordered arrangement. Beginning of colon: cecum; hanging off the cecum = appendix (can be taken out; not sure it"s of particular use to us; can become inflamed and burst)
