Document Summary

Which groups belong with the land plants in the plants in the broad sense? . Primary endosymbiosis: bounded by 1 inner and 1 outer membrane. Some green algae are closer related to plants than they are to other green algae. If not photosynthetic they lost that trait years ago but still have chloroplasts. If not protected it would dry up (it is held onto unlike in green algae) Required anatomical, physiological, and reproductive adaptations including: Cuticle: a waxy covering over the aerial outer surfaces of plants. Water is a limiting factor in plants. Stomata: (singular=stoma) pores on aerial surface of plants. The gap is the stoma not the actual cells. The zygote develops into a multicellular embryo within the female gametangium. Need to live where there is abundant water (sponge like) Nutritionally dependent on gametophytes (do not photosynthesize) No true roots, stems, or leaves (structures of dominant sporophytes) Have true stems, most have true roots and leaves.
