Definition of pr cis: pr cis is word of french origin. It is generally speaking, applied to a condensed report or narrative, compiled from a series of documents relating to some important event. In other sense, a pr cis is merely an bridged statement or summary of the substance of some lengthy passage, e. g. , a speech or an extract from a book. The exercises in summarizing set at the university examination are usually of this kind. Utility of pr cis writing: it is mainly intended to enable the reader to gain the knowledge of the main features of the document or documents from which the pr cis was compiled. It cannot be called a substitute for the original. As an exercise in composition it has its own value. It contributes to the formation of a compact lucid style. It has it"s a kind of mental discipline also. It requires the ability to distinguish between the essential and the superfluous.
