Symbolised by a series of republics; there have been five. Revolution of 1789 created republic to replace monarchy. Process was confirmed in 1793 with execution of louis xvi. Hobsbawm: economy of 19th century world was formed under influence of british industrial revolution, its politics and ideology were formed by the french. Britain provided model for non-european world with its railways and factories. Industrial revolution in america was inspired by this, economic structures of many countries were greatly altered.
